Privacy policy

When you install and use EZ Layaway, we collect information necessary to provide the layaway service on your Shopify store. This includes information you provide directly, information collected automatically, and information from Shopify.

We collect store and merchant information through Shopify's API, including your store URL, email address, and configuration preferences you set within the app.

We also collect customer information to manage layaway contracts, including:

1. Customer name and email address provided at checkout.
2. Order and product information associated with layaway contracts.
3. Payment schedule data and transaction records.
4. Communication preferences and notification history.

We use the information we collect to operate, maintain, and improve the EZ Layaway service. This includes processing layaway contracts, sending payment reminders, and managing installment schedules on your behalf.

Merchant information is used to configure your layaway programs, authenticate API access to your Shopify store, and communicate important service updates or billing notices.

Customer data collected through your store is used solely to fulfil the layaway service, including:

1. Creating and tracking layaway contracts tied to customer orders.
2. Sending automated payment reminder emails on your behalf.
3. Processing payments and updating order statuses in your Shopify store.
4. Providing customer support when requested by the merchant.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information or your customers' personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We only share data as necessary to provide the EZ Layaway service.

We may share information with trusted service providers who assist in operating our platform, including cloud infrastructure providers, email delivery services, and payment processors. These providers are contractually obligated to handle data securely and only for the purposes we specify.

We may disclose information when required by law, including:

1. In response to a valid legal process, such as a court order or subpoena.
2. To protect the rights, property, or safety of EZ Layaway, our merchants, or others.
3. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of company assets.
4. With your explicit consent for any other purpose not listed here.

We retain merchant account data for as long as your EZ Layaway subscription is active. When you uninstall the app, we will delete or anonymise your store data within 48 hours, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as dispute resolution.

Layaway contract records and associated customer data may be retained for up to 7 years to comply with financial record-keeping requirements applicable to instalment payment services.

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. We will respond to deletion requests within 30 days, subject to legal retention obligations.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes encryption in transit (TLS), encrypted storage for sensitive fields, and strict access controls within our systems.

All connections to Shopify are made using OAuth 2.0. We do not store your Shopify admin password or full payment card numbers at any point.

While we strive to maintain robust security practices, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to report any suspected security issues to privacy@ez-layaway.com.

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding the personal data we hold about you or your customers. These may include the right to access, correct, or delete personal data, and the right to object to or restrict certain processing activities.

If you are a Shopify merchant, you are the data controller for your customers' data that passes through EZ Layaway. You are responsible for ensuring your store's privacy policy accurately reflects how EZ Layaway handles customer data on your behalf.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice within the EZ Layaway app at least 14 days before the changes take effect.

Your continued use of EZ Layaway after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
